Tom Gale confirmed his status as one of the brightest young talents in British Athletics in July 2017 when he cleared 2.30m, the second-best high jump ever recorded by a GB junior.
It was a 12cm improvement on his personal best at the start of the season and set the qualification standard for the London 2017 IAAF World Championships, although it came just a couple of days after the selection deadline. Tom had some consolation, though, as it secured his Team England place for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. He was also invited to compete in two Diamond League events, finishing a fantastic third in Birmingham in August 2017.
A stellar 2017 saw Team Bath AC athlete Tom – supported by the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) – also win bronze at the European Junior Championships and be crowned as England U20 Champion both indoor and outdoor. The teenager won the English Schools title for a second successive year too.
Tom won gold in the 2019 England U23 Championships with a clearance of 2.25m to secure his place at the European U23 Championships.
