Liz named in ParalympicsGB team for London 2012
University of Bath Swimming Club swimmer Liz Johnson has had her place on the British team to compete at the London 2012 Paralympic Games confirmed.
Liz, who struck gold at Beijing in 2008, was initially named on a list of 26 British swimmers whose participation at the Games was subject to confirmation by the International Paralympic Committee of the number of swimming slots available.
Liz is currently training in Manchester in the lead-up to the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
ParalympicsGB has now confirmed her selection for the Games.She is joined on the list by three other athletes who used to train in Bath – Anthony Stephens, Nyree Kindred and Matthew Walker.
Anthony trained in Bath ahead of his Paralympic Games debut in 2004, when he won a silver and three bronze medals. Nyree trained in Bath ahead of the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games, where she won two bronze medals competing under her maiden name, Nyree Lewis.
Matthew also trained at the University of Bath ahead of the Sydney Games, where he won a gold, a silver and a bronze.
Her husband, Sascha Kindred, was named in an initial group of 16 swimmers selected for 2012 in April. He is also a member of Team Bath’s alumni, training in Bath ahead of the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games, when he won four medals – two golds, a silver and a bronze.
