Level 1 Coaching Weight Lifting

Developed in partnership with British Weight Lifting, the 1st4sport Level 1 Award in Coaching Weight Lifting (QCF) is the first qualification on the weight lifting coaching ladder. The qualification is designed to provide learners with an introduction to the practical and theoretical aspects of coaching weight lifting.

This course has a heavy practical element. Learning the practical competencies of Olympic weightlifting, you will be taught how to demonstrate variations of the squat, the clean and jerk, the snatch and the various progressions for teaching each lift. You will also learn about the technical aspects of coaching these lifts to your athletes/clients.


  • Accurately identified (proof of ID)
  • At least 17 years of age prior to certification (learners are required to be at least 18 years of age)
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (this includes listening, speaking, reading and writing)

Next course start date

October 28 2017 with a break for completing a portfolio and an assessment day on November 18 2017.

  • The role of the assistant weight lifting coach
  • The assistant weight lifting coach in practice
  • Technical requirements for coaching weight lifting
