Active IQ Level 4 Certificate in Strength and Conditioning

This course is suited for those who are looking for entry points into persuing a career within Strength and Conditioning. It provide learners with the knowledge and skills to be able to plan, prepare and deliver S&C programmes to a group of athletes to improve performance.

By the end of the course, students will be able to use good practice in creating a needs analysis, have a sound underpinning of scientific principles in athletic testing and be confident of creating a S&C programme that will improve specific elements of athletic performance, as well as lead a S&C session independently.

  • You must hold a Level 3 Personal Training qualification, a Level 3 Coaching qualification (or equivalent), or a Level 3 Strength and Conditioning qualification (or equivalent);
  • You may also hold relevant higher education or further education qualifications equivalent to or higher than those listed above (eg, physiotherapy, sports therapy).
Course content
  • Investigate the role of the Strength and Conditioning coach as part of an high performance environment and in an athlete’s support team;
  • Critically analyse the impact physiological, injury and biomechanical factors can have on an athlete’s performance and how it can influence programme design;
  • Be able to complete an appropriate testing battery which underpins good scientific principles;
  • Create with an athlete of your choice an agreed set of goals which are influenced by the test results and what the athlete wants to develop;
  • Create a periodised programme that incorporate meso and microcycles to ensure the development of the athlete you’re working with.
Assessment Assessment strategies used in the Level 4 qualification include but are not limited to:

  • Written assignment;
  • Powerpoint and oral presentation;
  • Learner Achievement Portfolios;
  • Case studies;
  • Practical demonstration and one to one coaching.
Delivery methods Weekends 9am-5pm (Saturday and Sunday) and includes elements of blended learning.
Progression routes
  • Higher education (e.g. college or university) to study Strength and Conditioning at a higher level;
  • UKSCA Accreditation Pathway (ASCC);
  • NSCA Certification Pathway (CPT);
  • NASM Certification Pathway (CES);
  • Strength and Conditioning Internship.
