There are now just 500 days to go until the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games and University of Bath-based athletes are continuing their preparations to compete on the world’s greatest sporting stage.

British athletes who are based at the University are training to battle for places to compete at 2012 across a range of sports, including athletics, judo, modern pentathlon and swimming.

The University of Bath is proud to been have chosen by Paralympics GB to host its preparation camps in the lead-up to the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

The University will also be a base for international teams to prepare for the Olympics.

The University has developed a relationship with the Malaysian Olympic Committee and Malaysian athletes will train at the Sports Training Village both in the build up to 2012 and to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. The Malaysian badminton team – among the strongest in the world – will train at Bath ahead of this year’s World Championships in London in August.

The University is also in negotiations for the Russian swimming team to train at the Sports Training Village ahead of London 2012. Discussions are also ongoing about bringing other Russian teams to the University ahead of 2012.

“We’re very excited that we already have the Malaysian team signed up to prepare for the Olympic Games and the British Paralympic Association for the Paralympic Games,” said Stephen Baddeley, Director of Sport at the University of Bath.

“We are also in final discussions with the Russian swimming team, as well as with a number of other sports, for them to make their final preparations for the Olympic Games at the University.”
