Silver for Olver at London Grand Prix

07 October 2013

University of Bath Coach Education and Sports Development graduate Heather Olver just missed out on gold at badminton’s inaugural London Grand Prix at the weekend.

Olver and partner Chris Langridge, the English national mixed doubles champions and number three seeds at the grand prix, lost to German second seeds Michael Fuchs and Birgit Michels 21-19 21-14 at the Copper Box Arena.

The England pairing are ranked 25 in the world and Olver said: “I think if we could have nicked that first game, things would have been a different story. Maybe we would have settled a bit more. I think the whole game, it was a little bit edgy, and we never really had any momentum.

“In the second game, they got a lead and we were always fighting to get back into it, and they wouldn’t let us.”

Olver combined training with University of Bath head badminton coach Pete Bush with studying for her degree, before transferring to the train at Badminton England’s National Badminton Centre in Milton Keynes.
