Management graduate Clarke is fifth in European final

GB and Northern Ireland Captain Lawrence Clarke, coached at the University of Bath Sports Training Village by Malcolm Arnold, was fifth in last night’s 60m hurdles final at the European Indoor Championships in Prague.

After a 2013 and 2014 that were plagued with injury, the Management graduate Clarke, 25, was pleased with the improvement.

He said:  “I am actually quite pleased as I made a complete hash of the first two rounds and I have come back and run one of my quicker times of the season.

“As I have been saying the aim of the season has been consistency, so to run 7.63 again in the European Championship final, I could not ask for much more.”

The French took a clean sweep of the medals in this event.

Earlier both Kirsten McAslan, a biochemistry student at Bath, and Laura Maddox, coached by University of Bath coach Colin Bovell, both qualified for the semi-finals of the 400m recording 53.25 and 53.67 in heats five and three respectively.

Drawn in the same semi, McAslan was fourth in 53.49 to narrowly miss a qualifying slot for the final and Maddox was sixth in 53.89.
