Bath Rugby name five students in squad for Premiership Rugby 7s at Franklin’s Gardens

26 July 2018

Five University of Bath students have been named in the Bath Rugby squad for this weekend’s Premiership Rugby 7s competition in Northampton.

Jack Davies, a recent Sport & Exercise Science graduate who is starting a Business Masters in September, and Tom Doughty, the University’s 2018-19 BUCS Super Rugby captain, are making their first appearances in the Blue, Black & White since signing senior Academy contracts last week.

Fellow Academy players Levi Davis – making his second appearance at the Premiership 7s – and Will Partington, both of whom impressed alongside Davies and Doughty with Team Bath in the national BUCS Super Rugby league last season, are also in the squad.

Completing the quintet is Darren Atkins who, like Davis, Doughty and Partington, is studying Sports Performance. He is stepping up to Bath Rugby’s Premiership squad for the 2018-19 season having progressed through the Academy.

Also in the Bath squad for the Premiership Rugby 7s are Beechen Cliff School pupil Will Butt, who is set to join the University in September, and Max Wright, Chris Cook, Tom de Glanville, Jack Wilson, Oli Cattell and Darren Allinson.

Bath have been drawn in Pool C for the tournament, taking place at Northampton Saints’ Franklin’s Gardens, and will face Worcester Warriors at 5.53pm and Exeter Chiefs at 8.53pm on Friday.

In the Worcester Warriors squad is International Development with Economics student Jordan Ainslie, an England Sevens international and Trendell Sporting Scholar who played for Bath Rugby at last year’s Premiership 7s.

The top-eight ranked teams will contest the Cup on Saturday, with the remaining four sides heading into the Plate competition.
