Coach calls on fans to cheer Team Bath into final

14 May 2013

Team Bath netball head coach Jess Thirlby has urged fans to really get behind the team in Sunday’s home semi-final (19 May) to help propel them to a historic fifth Superleague title.

The team’s 63-43 victory at Surrey Storm last night (Monday) means they topped the Showdown stage of the Superleague to book home advantage in Sunday’s big semi-final, which takes places at the University of Bath Sports Training Village at 7.30pm on Sunday.

Team Bath won’t know their opponents on Sunday until after Thursday night’s fourth/fifth place play-off between Hertfordshire Mavericks and Manchester Thunder.

But tickets have already gone on sale for the semi-final, when the winner will book a place in the Grand Final at the Worcester Arena on Saturday 25 May.

There’s a buy one get one free offer on tickets extended up to 5pm Friday 17 May and for further ticket information see the Superleague page on the Team Bath website.

Team Bath are the most successful team in Superleague history, winning four of the seven campaigns contested to date, their last victorious campaign being in 2010.

Thirlby said: “We really wanted to secure a home semi-final because our fans give us a really big lift. They’ve been amazing again this season.

“The structure of the Superleague means we only have a few days’ notice to sell tickets for the semi-final, but I hope our fans will once again turn out in force to cheer us on into the Grand Final.”

Team Bath set off at a great pace at Surrey Storm last night (Monday), securing a 20-10 advantage by the end of the first quarter. They were 37-18 ahead by the half way mark and went on to win by 20 goals,

“We made a really great start, we were very clinical in attack and we built the pressure in our defensive game,” said Thirlby. “Serena (Guthrie) showed some excellent leadership and there was good accuracy at goal from Pam (Cookey) and Kadeen (Corbin) and some smart circle attacking play.

“We weren’t able to keep the momentum up until the end, but it was a good solid performance with a greater cohesive team effort in both our defence and attacking play.”

Monday’s result means Team Bath finished top of the Showdown table.

Doors will open for Sunday’s semi-final against Hertfordshire Mavericks or Manchester Thunder at 6.30pm with the players warming up from 7pm and the game itself getting underway at 7.30pm.
