Beijing boost for Bath-based duo

19 July 2008

University of Bath-based sprinter Craig Pickering will contest the 100m sprint at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, it was announced today (Saturday).

The University of Bath Sport and Exercise Science student had already been named in the sprint relay squad but has now been told he will also run in the 100m at his first Olympic Games.

And the Marshall Milton Keynes athlete is joined in the Team GB squad by training partner Dale Garland. The Channel Islands AC athlete missed out on a 400m hurdles berth but has been added to the squad for the 4x400m relay.

Garland is a University of Bath Sport and Exercise Science graduate. Like Pickering, he is coached at the University of Bath by UK Athletics coach Malcolm Arnold.

Both Pickering and Garland make their Olympic debuts in Beijing.
