Happy New Year! Rescheduled Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games on the horizon as 2021 dawns

01 January 2021

2021 is here and with it the fresh dawn of an Olympic and Paralympic year for sportspeople based at the Team Bath Sports Training Village.

The Tokyo 2020 Games had been due to take place last summer but, following their rescheduling due to the Covid-19 pandemic, athletes across a host of sports – including judo, modern pentathlon, swimming, track and field, triathlon and wheelchair fencing – and nationalities have refocused and are hard at work as they prepare towards the new dates.

The Olympic Games will take place from July 23 to August 8, 2021, while the Paralympic Games are scheduled to take place August 24 to September 5 2021.

So far a number of University-based sportspeople have set the qualification standard, while triathlete Vicky Holland became the first athlete at the Sports Training Village to be officially selected for the Olympic Games.

All of those who earn selection will be looking to emulate the success of some of the country’s biggest sporting names who have won medals at each of the past five Games while training at the University of Bath‘s world-renowned facilities.

Good luck to all those targeting Tokyo 2020 and don’t forget, you can follow their journey throughout the year on our dedicated Tokyo 2020 page – click here for more details.
