ISAK Level 1 Anthropometry Course
About ISAK
The International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK) is a global organisation that sets standards for measuring the human body in relation to health, movement and performance.
ISAK provides internationally recognised training and accreditation to ensure anthropometric measurements are accurate, reliable and consistent across practitioners worldwide.
These standards are widely used in sport science, physiotherapy, nutrition and health research to assess body composition, monitor performance, guide nutrition strategies and support health risk screening.
By unifying measurement practices, ISAK improves the quality and comparability of data globally — supporting better decisions in both performance and healthcare settings.
ISAK Level 1 Course
The ISAK Level 1 course is designed for practitioners who need to collect a restricted anthropometric profile, including key body measurements, skinfolds, girths and bone breadths.
The course combines online learning (provided prior to attendance) with practical, hands-on training delivered over consecutive days. Participants also complete a practical assessment to evaluate measurement accuracy and reliability.
The course is delivered at the University of Bath by Hannah van Buuren, a Level 3 ISAK Accredited Instructor.
Who is it for?
This course is suitable for Sport and Exercise Science students and professionals working in strength and conditioning, nutrition, physiotherapy and sports rehabilitation who wish to develop accredited anthropometric assessment skills.
Delivery format
A blended learning approach is used:
- Online theory content (released in advance of the practical sessions);
- In-person practical training at the University of Bath over three consecutive days;
- Final practical assessment to evaluate measurement accuracy and reliability.
Course dates
No upcoming dates are currently scheduled. If you are interested in attending a future course, please email Hannah Van Buuren (hevb20@bath.ac.uk) register your interest and you will be contacted when new dates are released.
ISAK Level 1 Re-Accreditation
This one-day re-accreditation session is typically completed alongside Level 1 training. It includes practical assessment and re-evaluation of anthropometric measurement error (intra- and inter-tester reliability).
Course cost
£300 (University of Bath students).
This fee includes all course teaching, practical training, assessment, and ISAK Level 1 accreditation upon successful completion.
Register interest
Please email Hannah Van Buuren (hevb20@bath.ac.uk) to be notified when new course dates are released or to express interest in Level 1 or re-accreditation.
Assessment
Assessment is based on the demonstration of accurate and consistent anthropometric measurement. This includes evaluation of:
- Intra-tester reliability (how repeatable your own measurements are);
- Inter-tester reliability (how closely your measurements align with criterion standards).
You will also be required to submit 20 anthropometric profiles within four months of course completion.
Certification
On successful completion, you will receive:
- ISAK Level 1 Accreditation (valid for four years);
- ISAK membership.
