Double singles success for Team Bath MCTA Academy players

There was a double success for Team Bath MCTA Academy tennis players at the weekend with Callum Poland-Smith collecting a singles title in Malaysia and Adam Glynn winning in Kuwait. Seventeen-year-old Poland-Smith took an all-Bath boys’ singles final to the win the Sarawak Chief Minister’s Cup in Malaysia. Ivor Powell MBE, a former Welsh international footballer and long-serving coach at the University of Bath, passed away last night at the age of 96 after a short illness. After a playing, managerial and coaching career that took him to Aston Villa, Blackpool, Queens Park Rangers, Leeds United, Carlisle and PAOK of Greece, Ivor coached at the University for 37 years before retiring in 2010. Olympic silver medallist Michael Jamieson collected a hat-trick of titles to help the University of Bath team to second place at the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Short Course Swimming Championships. Double Olympian Lizzie Simmonds has moved her training base to British Swimming’s Intensive Training Centre at the University of Bath.
