University of Bath staff and alumni joined friends and family in celebrating the life of Ivor Powell MBE at  a tribute event  at the Sports Training Village this afternoon (Tuesday). Ivor, whose illustrious footballing career saw him play for Wales, Queens Park Rangers, Blackpool and Aston Villa, passed away at the age of 96 after a short illness on 5 November. Ivor Powell MBE, a former Welsh international footballer and long-serving coach at the University of Bath, passed away last night at the age of 96 after a short illness. After a playing, managerial and coaching career that took him to Aston Villa, Blackpool, Queens Park Rangers, Leeds United, Carlisle and PAOK of Greece, Ivor coached at the University for 37 years before retiring in 2010. Olympic silver medallist Michael Jamieson collected a hat-trick of titles to help the University of Bath team to second place at the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Short Course Swimming Championships.
