This qualification provides the knowledge and practical expertise required to work confidently with nonacute injuries, postural and gait dysfunction, and a wide range of musculoskeletal presentations.

About this qualification 

This Level 5 Certificate enables learners to develop the advanced practical and theoretical skills needed to perform detailed assessments and deliver complex sports massage treatments. It is suitable for learners aged 18+ and provides occupational competence at Level 5, as well as progression routes into sports therapy, sport science, and physiotherapy. 

Key aims 

Learners will develop the ability to: 

  • Conduct complex assessments, including posture, gait, biomechanical testing, and neurological screening. 
  • Devise and implement advanced treatment plans informed by clinical reasoning and evidencebased practice. 
  • Apply complex massage techniques such as myofascial release, positional release, PNF stretching, and active isolated stretching. 
  • Provide appropriate corrective aftercare, including mobility, proprioception, and strengthening strategies. 

 You will learn to: 

  • Perform advanced subjective and objective assessments;
  • Analyse red/yellow flags and their implications;
  • Test ligament, cartilage, labrum and joint integrity;
  • Recognise neurological presentations;
  • Critically evaluate research to apply evidence-based practice  

Prerequisites 

To enrol, learners must hold: 

Team Bath VAST will ensure all learners have the required knowledge, understanding and skills to successfully complete the qualification. 

Assessment 

To achieve the Level 5 Certificate, learners must complete a portfolio of evidence including:  

  • Five client consultations/assessments;
  • Five treatment case studies;
  • Written assignments.
