Former Team Bath Netball star Pamela Cookey announces England retirement

29 September 2015

Former Team Bath Netball player Pamela Cookey has announced her retirement from international netball.

The former captain of both club and country amassed 114 caps over 11 years for England and also represented the Red Roses at U17 and U21 level.

Cookey said: “I would like to thank everyone who has played a part in getting me to where I am today. From all at England Netball to numerous coaches, the EIS, my surgeons Andy and Rhys and of course, Sport England for our funding.

“Our sponsors have been wonderful, as have our incredible fans and supporters throughout my career. I would also like to thank all of my amazing teammates across the years and so many more I have undoubtedly missed off!”

Cookey will continue playing domestically in the Vitality Netball Superleague next season with Surrey Storm, whose first game of the season is against Team Bath Netball.

That match is taking place at the NEC in Birmingham at the culmination of Super Saturday, a pioneering event which will see all eight franchises play their opening fixture at the same venue and on the same day.

Cookey and her Storm team-mates are also visiting the University of Bath on Saturday, November 14 to compete in a tri-tournament hosted by Team Bath and also involving Hertfordshire Mavericks.

That will also be the first chance for Team Bath fans to welcome Head Coach Anna Stembridge and England defender Eboni Beckford-Chambers back to the Blue and Gold, as well as see new shooter Chelsea Lewis in action.

Three games will be played on the day and tickets are now on sale priced £10 for adults, £7 concessions and £28 for a family ticket.

Anyone who buys a season ticket for Team Bath’s 2016 Vitality Netball Superleague campaign – priced £50 for adults and £35 concessions – before October 23 will receive a half-price discount code for tri-tournament tickets.
