Gold, silver and bronze for Bath athletes at European Under-23 Championships

18 July 2011

University of Bath based Jack Green, Danny Talbot and Lawrence Clarke all picked up medals this weekend at the European Athletics Under-23 Championships in Ostrava, Czech Republic. Each of them performed strongly on the track to bring home medals in their events.

Jack Green, coached by UK Athletics National Events Coach for Hurdles Malcolm Arnold, won gold in the 400m hurdles with a time of 49.13 defeating Great Britain team-mate Nathan Woodward by 0.15 seconds. Despite not beating his personal best, Green was positive after the race, remarking ‘people remember titles, not times.’

Danny Talbot won silver in the 4x100m and just missed out on a medal in the 200m. Coached by Dan Cossins, Talbot came close to a medal in the 200m, missing out on the bronze by 0.04 seconds. “I thought I had it, but maybe I just went off too hard,” he said. He recovered from this disappointment to produce a great performance in the 4x100m where his team ran in a time of 39.10 seconds, just missing out on the gold medal by 0.05 seconds.

Lawrence Clarke took home a bronze medal in the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.62 seconds. Coached by Malcolm Arnold, Clarke edged third place with a photo finish against Thomas Delmestre of France. “I wasn’t really ranked in the medals and I’ve run much better than I’d hoped to,” he said, “I’m really, really happy with that.”
