Olympics Superstars 2012 screened

BBC One’s Superstars 2012 one-off Olympic special was screened on Saturday 29 December.

Sixteen British Olympic medallists from London 2012 battled it out for supremacy for show, much of which was filmed at the University of Bath Sports Training Village last month.

University of Bath Sports Performance student and Bath Intensive Training Centre swimmer Michael Jamieson was among the eight guys in action.

The Olympic silver medallist was joined by 5000m and 10000m gold medallist Mo Farah, boxing gold medallist Anthony Joshua and rowing gold medallist Andy Triggs Hodge.

Triathletes Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee high jumper Robbie Grabarz and shooter Peter Wilson were also in action.

The women’s competition featured Olympic gold medal winning rower Helen Glover, who learned to row at the University on GB Rowing’s Start programme at the University of Bath, as well as University of Bath Sports Performance graduate Gemma Gibbons, who won judo silver at London 2012.

Boxing gold medallist Nicola Adams, taekwondo gold medallist Jade Jones and rowing gold medallist Katherine Grainger also starred in the event, along with 400m silver medallist Christine Ohuruogu, cyclist Lizzie Armitstead and dressage rider Laura Bechtolsheimer.

The athletes took part in the 100m and 800m at the University, as well as archery, with swimming and kayaking in the 50m pool at the Sports Training Village. Cycles races also ended on the University’s campus.

Superstars 2012 is hosted by Gabby Logan. She was joined by former Olympians Denise Lewis and Iwan Thomas as pundits.
