Team Bath Judo’s Megan Fletcher wins first senior British Championships title
Megan Fletcher led the way as Team Bath judo players collected a haul of medals at the 2013 British Championships.
Fletcher took gold in the women’s under-70kg class at Sheffield to add her first senior British Championship title to her cadet and junior titles.
She beat Amy Livesey in the final. There was a bronze in the same weight category for Natasha Maslen, a Sports Performance student at the University of Bath.
Team Bath judo players also brought home four silver medals from the senior championships.
Megan’s brother, Ben, took silver in the under-100kg class, losing out to Philip Awiti-Alcaraz in the final.
Business Administration graduate Tom Reed took silver in the under-81kg class, losing to Tom Camberley in the final, while Sports Performance graduate Andy Burns won silver in the under-90kg division, missing out to Matthew Purssey.
There was also a silver for Jemima Duxberry in the women’s uner-63kg competition. That completed an impressive double after she took silver at the British Junior Championships a day earlier.
Jan Gosiewski, a Mechanical Engineering graduate and now studying for an MSc in Engineering Design, picked up bronze in the men’s under-73kg class. Gosiewski is supported by a Santander Sports Scholarship.
And there was a bronze in the juniors for Sports Performance student Freya de Chastelain at under-52kg. She just missed out on the medals in fourth in the senior competition.
