15 July 2013

University of Bath-based sprinter Danny Talbot is celebrating a brace of medals at the European Under-23 Championships in Finland.

The 22-year-old, who is coached by Dan Cossins, won silver in the 200m and followed that up with gold in the 4x100m on yesterday’s (Sunday) final day of action in Tampere.

Talbot ran the second leg in the relay final partnering Adam Gemili, Deji Tobais and Dannish Walker-Khan as the quartet set a new European under-23 record of 38.77 seconds.

“It’s brilliant, it’s been an amazing championships,” he said. “ I always think the relay is the best event, you’re doing it with your mates. We’ve known each other for years and we get to come out here and represent Great Britain and we broke the European record so we can’t really ask for much more.”

On Saturday Talbot clocked 20.46 seconds, his second fastest time, to take 200m silver behind Poland’s Karol Zalewski.

James Gladman, coached by James Hillier, came home fifth in the 110m hurdles final in 13.75 seconds.

Jack Green, coached by Malcolm Arnold, didn’t finish his 400m hurdles heat.
