Top-flight televised re-run of 2013 final in store

19 February 2014

Reigning ZEO Netball Superleague champions Team Bath will take on Celtic Dragons in a re-run of last year’s final on Friday week (28 February) at the University of Bath in a televised clash.

The home match will come a week after Team Bath take on Yorkshire Jets away.

Spectators at the Sports Training Village could be in for an exciting ride as Team Bath have come through a recent flurry of nail-biting encounters.

Coach Jess Thirlby saw her charges came back from a 12-goal deficit away to Surrey Storm a week ago to clinch a 48-48 draw with the last shot of the match. They followed that with a cliff-hanging, one-point victory away to Hertfordshire Mavericks on Saturday.

In Hatfield, Team Bath led by 14-13 at the end of the first quarter before dropping five goals behind halfway through the third quarter. Some fine form from shooter Rosie Allison saw Bath come back into contention to lead 36-34 with 15 minutes to go and clinch the match with the final phase of play.

Thirlby marked out Amanda Trounce, Jenna Murie, Rosie Allison and Pamela Cookey for praise.

She said: “It was a really good opportunity for some of the players who haven’t been getting a lot of game time to show what they could do. Jenna Murie played in Goal Defence and had a really good impact. Amanda Trounce came off the bench and did well.

“Rosie and Pam did well in the shooting circle and stood up to Mavericks’ physicality.

“We had a lot of turnover in the first period of the game but didn’t capitalise on it as much as we’d have liked to.

“It was reassuring to see us come out on top. It was good psychologically to get a win from the game and it was great to see the team pull together like that”.

Tickets are now on sale for the live televised game on the 28th against Celtic Dragons. When the two teams last clashed, in last year’s final, Bath edged to an historic fifth Superleague title by 62-56.

Pre-match entertainment gets underway at 6.45pm.
