Glasgow 2014: University of Bath graduate Heather Olver serves up silver for Team England at Commonwealth Games
University of Bath graduate Heather Olver collected a silver medal for helping England to second place in the team badminton competition at the Glasgow 204 Commonwealth Games today (Monday).
Olver, who has a Coach Education and Sports Development degree from the University, featured in the earlier rounds of the competition but did not play in today’s final against Malaysia, where England went down 3-1.
Her silver medal joins the bronze she won for England in the same competition in Delhi four years ago.
She is now based at Badminton England’s National Badminton Centre in Milton Keynes.
University of Bath-based swimmer Jemma Lowe just missed out of the medals in a close finish in the 200m butterfly. The Welsh swimmer came home in fifth.
Earlier Kristian Callaghan, an Integrated Mechanical and Electrical Engineering student, shot a personal best to finish second in the qualifying round of the 50m pistol to comfortably book a place in the final.
However, the Commonwealth Games debutant was the fourth of the eight finalists to be eliminated, to finish fifth overall.
