University of Bath graduate Luke Charteris is returning to the city after agreeing a move to Bath Rugby.

The Welsh international lock, who completed a Sport & Exercise Science degree in 2005, has played in France for the past three years with Perpignan and Racing 92.

Charteris, who has 60 caps for his country and played in the 2015 Rugby World Cup, will join Bath Rugby next season.

“It is such an ambitious club and that’s a great atmosphere to be joining,” he said.

“They put a lot of emphasis on player development, making sure that everyone is improving no matter how experienced they are, and that is a very exciting environment to be part of.

“There is some incredible talent in the squad and I’m really looking forward to heading over and getting started.”

The arrival of Charteris strengthens the links between Bath Rugby and the University of Bath.

Sports & Social Sciences student Will Britton also made his Bath Rugby debut during pre-season and was a replacement for Bath United – the club’s 2nd XV – last week.
