GB team named for final Modern Pentathlon World Cup of Rio Olympic season

13 April 2016

University of Bath student Tom Toolis (pictured) returns to the Pentathlon GB squad for the fourth and final World Cup of the Rio 2016 Olympic season, taking place in Hungary this weekend.

Toolis, who is studying Sports Performance, is joined in the men’s team for Kecskemét by former World Junior Champion Jamie Cooke plus graduates Sam Curry and Joe Evans. Their qualification heats take place on Friday, with the final on Sunday.

University of Bath graduates Kate French, Samantha Murray and Freyja Prentice are named in the women’s squad for a third successive World Cup and will be joined by reigning World Junior Champion Francesca Summers.

She, like Toolis, secured a top-15 finish in Kecskemét last year and will be looking to build upon that performance this week.

The women’s qualifiers take place on Thursday ahead of the final on Saturday.

The Pentathlon GB team – whose national training centre is based at the Sports Training Village – will be looking to gain valuable points to qualify for May’s World Cup Final in the United States.
