Siobhan-Marie O’Connor sets up second medal shot at European Aquatics Champs

Siobhan-Marie O’Connor will be competing for her second LEN European Aquatics Championships medal of the week on Thursday after qualifying second-fastest for the women’s 200m individual medley final.

The University of Bath-based swimmer was runner-up to defending champion Katinka Hosszu of Hungary in the second of Wednesday’s semi-finals at the London Aquatics Centre.

“I’m really happy with that,” said O’Connor, who won gold in the mixed 4x100m medley relay on Tuesday.

“The time was similar to where I was at the British Championships but I am definitely looking to go a bit quicker in the final tomorrow.

“It’s amazing to have the LEN European Aquatics Championships come to London. To have the opportunity to come here and race against the likes of Katinka is perfect for my preparation ahead of Rio.

“We’re training hard and training through [the championships] but the team are still delivering some great performances.”

O’Connor, one of four British Swimming National Centre Bath athletes to be selected for this summer’s Olympic Games, is coached by Dave McNulty and Graeme Antwhistle in the London 2012 Legacy Pool.
