26 September 2016

University of Bath graduate Amy Wilson Hardy captained England Women to a third-placed finish at the Rugby Europe Grand Prix Sevens Series in Malemort, France on Sunday.

The side, playing as GB Lions, won two of their three Pool C matches and then overcame a Wales side – playing as GB Royals – 14-5 in the quarter-finals.

England then led France 19-17 with three seconds left on the clock in the semi-final, only for the hosts to snatch victory with a last-gasp try.

They regrouped and secured third place with a 12-5 win over Ireland, who had beaten England 27-5 when they met in the pool stages on Saturday.

Malemort was the second of two legs for the Rugby Europe Grand Prix Sevens Series, with the first having taken place in Kazan, Russia, in June where GB Lions also finished third.

Wilson Hardy, who graduated in Integrated Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in 2015, represented Team GB at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
