Alumna Fran Wilson on top of the world as England win Cricket World Cup
University of Bath graduate Fran Wilson helped England win the Women’s Cricket World Cup on an unforgettable Sunday afternoon of high drama at Lord’s.
Wilson, who studied Sports Performance, scored 159 runs in five matches – including 81 in the opening fixture against India – as the host nation progressed to the final.
She went to a first-ball duck as England posted a score of 228-7 in the final but a sensational spell of 5-11 in 19 deliveries from fellow Bath cricketer Anya Shrubsole meant opponents India fell nine runs short in reply.
Wilson, who plays domestically for Western Storm and Middlesex, is a multi-talented sportswoman and captained the University of Bath women’s football 1st XI. She was also voted as the University’s Sports Personality of the Year at the 2014 Blues Awards.
