Buccs players and coaches get international call for EuroHockey Nations Championships

14 August 2017

Team Bath Buccaneers Hockey Club players and coaches will be representing their countries on the international stage when both the Senior and Junior EuroHockey Nations Championships take place this month.

Liam Sanford (pictured), who made his senior debut in March, is once again in the England men’s squad for the championships taking place in Amsterdam from August 15-28.

Bobby Crutchley, former Head Hockey Coach with Buccs and the University of Bath, leads a coaching team which will feature Jody Paul, the current Head Coach at the Sports Training Village, as Assistant Coach.

England have been drawn in Pool B against Poland, Germany and Ireland, who will have Buccs player and University women’s 1st team coach John Jackson amongst their ranks.

The Rio 2016 Olympian last month helped Ireland secure World Cup qualification for the first time since 1990.

Meanwhile, England have selected three talented Buccs players for the EuroHockey Junior Nations Championship taking place in Valencia, Spain, from August 23 to September 4.

Sports Performance students Peter Scott, supported by a Trendell Sports Scholarship, and Harry Skinner are joined in the squad by Will Hewer. All three impressed for the U21s during a recent tour of Germany.

Team Bath Buccaneers men’s and women’s teams are back in pre-season training, with sessions taking place on the Sitec all-weather pitch at the Sports Training Village on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

New recruits aged 13 and over are welcome – click here for more information about session timings.
