“Tremendous honour” as ‘creme de la creme’ Team Bath claims double success at 2019 Bath Life Awards

01 March 2019

Team Bath won two honours, including the prestigious Platinum Award for best category winner overall, on a fantastic night at the 2019 Bath Life Awards.

The annual celebration of businesses and organisations in Bath and the contribution they make to the local community saw Team Bath, whose world-class University of Bath Sports Training Village facilities receive more than 1.6million visits each year, win the hotly-contested Health & Wellbeing category.

The judging panel then selected Team Bath as the ‘crème de la crème’ of the 22 category winners, with the coveted Platinum Award being presented to Director of Sport Stephen Baddeley and Sports Facility Manager Ron Stewart.

“This is a tremendous honour,” said Baddeley. “To win the Health & Wellbeing Award was a great achievement in itself but to then receive the Platinum Award was a wonderful and unexpected bonus, especially considering the outstanding calibre of competition.

“We are famous for being home to high-performance athletes but we are really proud to be fully integrated into the local community. There aren’t many places where people get to train alongside and be inspired by Olympians and Paralympians but our philosophy has always been to make sport available and accessible to everyone.

“More than 10,000 members of the community regularly use our facilities and we have 3,500 children come up every week to enjoy coaching and sporting opportunities. We are creating impact and helping people of all ages achieve their health and fitness goals.

“Thank you to Bath Life for this recognition and congratulations to all the other winners and finalists.”

The award ceremony took place at the Assembly Rooms in Bath and was hosted by Olympic gold-medallist Amy Williams. She was on the nine-strong independent judging panel along with Amanda Brown (Founder, Flamingo), Charlie Taylor (Partner, Knight Frank), Ian Sandham (Branch Director, Jelf), Ian Taylor (Owner, The Kaleidoscope Collection), John Ryder (Director, IWG PLC), Lauren Penrose (CEO, Bath College), Mel Taylor (Co-Director and Owner, Running High Events) and Zara Perry (Owner, Zara Perry Hairdressing).

The Bath Life Awards, organised by Bath Life publishers MediaClash, received a record number of entries across all categories this year. Click here to find out more about the awards.
