Sporting scholar Laura Macro claims major scalp and gold during dominant performance at Henley Women’s Regatta

University of Bath sporting scholar Laura Macro beat a former World Champion on her way to the second Henley Women’s Regatta title of her career as she won gold once again on the world-famous course.

The Sport & Exercise Science student, supported by a Santander Sports Scholarship, beat 2014 World Champion Eveline Peleman of Belgium club KRSG by three-and-a-half lengths in the Championship lightweight women’s single scull final to secure the Godfrey Rowsports Trophy.

U23 international Macro, who is coached by Dan Harris on the GB Rowing Team World-Class Start talent development programme at Bath, had previously won the Rosie Mayglothing Trophy for Senior double scull crews with Steph Clutterbuck in 2017.

“Seeing Laura dominate the event was awesome,” said Harris. “We knew she was on top form and the quickest she’s ever been heading into the event, so to see her race and win so convincingly was great.

“She was actually the fastest of any single across all the events in the Time Trial and Final, so a really strong performance all round.”
