Sporting scholar Vicki McCabe makes step up from junior to senior ranks with England Hockey Women following World Cup medal
University of Bath sporting scholar Vicki McCabe has been rewarded for her role in helping England Hockey win bronze at the Women’s Junior World Cup by being called up to the senior squad for the first time.
The Sports Performance student, who is supported by an Ivor Powell Scholarship, is in contention to make her senior debut when England take on the United States in a FIH Hockey Pro League double-header in North Carolina on Saturday and Sunday (both start 7pm BST).
McCabe, who plays club hockey for Team Bath Buccaneers, is one of three members of the history-making junior squad to make the step up, along with captain Millie Giglio and Lorna Mackenzie – between them, the trio scored seven of England’s nine goals during this month’s tournament in South Africa.
