Team Bath judoka George Kroussaniotakis warmed up for this month’s World University Games by winning gold at the Tallin European Open in Estonia.
Kroussaniotakis, who studies Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Bath, beat Ukraine’s Anton Savytskiy – ranked 39 in the world – in the semi-finals of the men’s -100kg weight division.
The final against Italy’s Enrico Bergamelli saw Kroussaniotakis throw his opponent twice for wazari and overall victory.
It was the ideal preparation for the World University Games, taking place in China from 28th July to 8th August, where Kroussaniotakis will be representing Cyrpus.
