New year means a new term of pan disability tennis sessions at Team Bath following successful launch and festive treat
A new term of Pan Disability Tennis Sessions is getting under way at Team Bath this week after a successful first term concluded with an Acez Inclusive Christmas Tennis Festival.
Six young people, aged from eight to 22, and their families attended the fun event at the Sports Training Village which was run by Team Bath Tennis with the support of Access Sport.
Coaches adapted festive games and drills using specialist equipment for participants including those with Autism, ADHD, and other sensory processing difficulties.
Positive feedback from parents included “really enjoyable with great staff”, “totally inclusive of age, ability and needs”, and “the staff were really fun and supportive”.
The festival followed on from weekly pan disability sessions, staged on Mondays by coaches from Team Bath and NOVA, which have also proven successful.
National charity Access Sport has provided crucial disability training for student coaches, who will be assisting with these sessions – being delivered on Team Bath’s indoor tennis courts from 5-6pm on Mondays – during the forthcoming term.
Jonny Fenner, Development Manager for Access Sport, said: “It’s been so great working with the Team Bath Tennis coaches to bring Acez tennis to life in Bath. We were met with enthusiasm and passion from the coaches and students when delivering our disability inclusion training and it’s great to see the benefits of this on the court.”
Charles Nichols, Team Bath Tennis Coordinator and Coach, added: “The festival and associated sessions embody the concept of being inclusive every day. It doesn’t matter what age, gender, or skill level you are, there is a place for you on the tennis courts at the University of Bath.”
