Six new Bath Rugby Scholars ready to strive for sporting and academic excellence at the University of Bath

17 September 2025

Six University of Bath freshers have been awarded Bath Rugby Scholarships for the 2025-26 season.

Lock Rory McKnight will combine his burgeoning rugby career with studying Economics with Politics, while hooker Evan Gallagher, back row Fred Kempton, scrum-half Isaac Mears, centre Cameron Ward and full-back/wing Harry Walker are all beginning Sport Management and Coaching courses.

Alongside their studies, the players will train with both Bath Rugby Academy and the University’s Student Performance Sport rugby programme, and are eligible to represent the men’s 1st XV in the national BUCS Super Rugby league.

The University of Bath and Bath Rugby work closely to provide a competitive and supportive environment for players, allowing them to further develop and excel alongside their academic studies. Among the senior players who have successfully progressed through the University pathway in recent years are internationals Tom Dunn, Archie Griffin and Max Ojomoh, and 24 students have progressed from BUCS Super Rugby to represent Bath in the Premiership.

Alongside University of Bath Head of Rugby Aaron James, Bath Rugby staff contributing to the programme include coaches Mark Lilley and Ryan Davis, and Head Analyst Connor MacIntosh.
