Turkish delight for Dan Bethell as Bath para badminton star is crowned European Champion for a fifth time
University of Bath-based Dan Bethell won a fifth continental men’s singles title at the VICTOR European Para Badminton Championships in Istanbul.
The double Paralympic medallist needed just 37 minutes to record a 21-9 21-8 victory over second seed Oleksandr Chyrkov of Ukraine in the SL3 final.
“I’m delighted to have retained my European title for a fifth time,” said Bethell, who trains at the Team Bath Sports Training Village. “I felt really confident going into the final and I’m pleased with how I controlled the game and executed my game plan.”
Next up for Bethell is the Indonesia Para Badminton International, taking place from 29th October to 2nd November.
