Senior international Enoch Opoku-Gyamfi on the scoresheet as Bath complete BUCS Super Rugby league double over Leeds Beckett
The University of Bath men’s 1st XV were 41-21 victors at Leeds Beckett on Wednesday to complete their first BUCS Super Rugby league double of the season.
The visitors, sponsored by Bath Building Society, followed up October’s 44-14 victory in Bath with a hard-earned success in Yorkshire to extend their winning run to three matches.
Enoch Opoku-Gyamfi (pictured), fresh from making his senior international debut for Italy, returned to the second row and got on the scoresheet in the 10th minute, restoring Bath’s lead after Tyler Offiah’s try and James Linegar’s conversion in the opening 60 seconds had been quickly cancelled out.
Linegar added the extras to Opoku-Gyamfi’s try and touched down himself in the 19th minute before Offiah secured the bonus point with Bath’s fourth try just before half-time, again converted by Linegar.
When Jamie Howick crossed the whitewash four minutes after the restart, Bath were looking comfortable with a 29-7 lead but Leeds Beckett rallied superbly to score two converted tries of their own and cut the gap to eight points with 17 minutes still to play.
Jack Woods settled the visitors’ nerves with a try four minutes from time, converted by Will Roue, and replacement hooker Oscar Thomas touched down in the dying seconds to seal a win that moves Bath level with second-placed Loughborough and within two points of leaders Exeter.
Bath, who are also supported by Rengen, will look to finish 2025 on a high note when Cardiff Met visit the Team Bath Sports Training Village for the last match before the Christmas break on Wednesday 10th December. Kick-off is 6.30pm on the 3G Pitch and entry is free.
