Commonwealth gold-medallist and Director of Sport Stephen Baddeley wishes University of Bath athletes well for Glasgow 2026
University of Bath Director of Sport Stephen Baddeley knows what it is like to stand on the podium at a Commonwealth Games in Scotland – and he is hoping this year’s crop of sportspeople get to experience that at Glasgow 2026.
Stephen remains Team England’s only badminton men’s singles gold medallist following his success in Edinburgh in 1986.
Now, 40 years on, he is cheering on the University of Bath-associated athletes, coaches and support staff who are representing the four Home Nations in this year’s Games, which run from Thursday 23rd July to Sunday 2nd August.
“I have very fond memories of that event in Scotland,” he said. “The Scottish people are great hosts and always very welcoming, even to the English!
“It is my great pleasure to wish the best of luck to all the athletes from Team Bath who have qualified for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. Do the best in your event and really make the most of your experience.”
