Ten-try Bath extend winning run with impressive victory in first Men’s BUCS Super Rugby meeting with Brunel

01 October 2026

The University of Bath extended their winning run to 16 matches with an impressive 68-24 away victory in their first-ever Men’s BUCS Super Rugby fixture against newcomers Brunel.

The visitors notched 10 tries during Wednesday’s match at Ealing Trailfinders RFC, taking their tally for the 2026-27 season to 18 from two matches, and James Linegar (pictured) kicked nine conversions.

Bath made several changes from the 15 that started the opening day win over Loughborough, with hooker Oscar Thomas and flanker Fred Kempton coming into the pack and Rocky Prowse, Jamie Howick, Bailey Cutts and Harry Walker making up a new-look three-quarter line.

They settled quickly and were 21-0 up after 27 minutes thanks to two tries from Italy international Enoch Opoku-Gyamfi – his second a superb line break from Kempton’s clever pass – and one for Alex Yeabsley after some fantastic footwork from full-back Jack Woods.

James Linegar kicked all three conversions and, after Brunel had pulled one back, added the extras to Walker’s touchdown on the stroke of half-time as Bath secured the bonus point and a 28-7 advantage.

A free-scoring start to the second half saw Brunel touch down twice and Bath notch four more tries through Prowse (2), Linegar and Woods as they stretched their lead to 52-17 by the hour mark.

Brunel grabbed the next try to claim a bonus point but the visitors went over twice more in the last 10 minutes through England U20 forwards Connor Treacey and Tate Williams to seal the win. Linegar converted both, taking his personal points tally for the evening to 23.

Next up for Bath are back-to-back derby matches, away at Hartpury on Wednesday 7th October and at home to Exeter at the Team Bath Sports Training Village on Wednesday 14th October (both 6.30pm).
