Amy honoured to become a Freeman of the City of Bath
Amy Williams, Britain’s Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games skeleton gold medalist said she felt honoured and privileged to be the first woman to become an Honorary Freeman of the City of Bath.

The 27-year-old University of Bath graduate becomes only the fifth person since the Second World War to be made an Honorary Freeman of the City of Bath. The others were former Prime Minister Winston Churchill; Haile Selassie, the former Emperor of Ethiopia; Yehudi Menuhin, the violinist and conductor, and Jason Gardener, gold medalist in the 4×100m at the Athens 2004 Olympics.
Amy, who struck gold in Vancouver in February, said: “Being a Freeman of the City of Bath is a huge honour and responsibility. It means so much to me. This is the place where I grew up, where I had my childhood and where I live.
“Being on a list with people like Winston Churchill is amazing,” she added.
“It was very nerve-wracking standing up in the Abbey today,” said Amy.
