Samantha Murray is world champion

05 September 2014

University of Bath graduate Samantha Murray is the new modern pentathlon world champion after striking gold in Warsaw today.

And there was a double celebration as she joined forces with Freyja Prentice and Kate French to win team silver.

The trio are all University of Bath graduates and train at the Pentathlon GB National Training Centre at the University.

“It doesn’t feel real,” said French and Politics student Murray.

“I’ve worked so hard for this and I’ve been aiming for this competition for a while. To be able to say I’m world champion is absolutely fantastic. I dreamed of this so often and now my dream has come true.”

Biology graduate Prentice said: “It was a  very mixed day. I wanted to fight for a team medal which we managed which is good.

“Pentathlon has a good history in Britain and we’re trying to continue that, and seeing Sam come through for gold was great for the sport so we just thought finish on a high as well.”
