Four Bath athletes are Beijing bound after World Championships call

29 July 2015

Four University of Bath-based athletes have been named in the Great Britain squad for next month’s IAAF World Athletics Championships in Beijing, China.

European 400m hurdles champion Eilidh Child, coached by Malcolm Arnold at the Sports Training Village, will compete at a fourth successive World Championships – she finished fifth at the 2013 event in Moscow.

Child has also been named in the women’s 4x400m relay squad along with Kirsten McAslan, a Santander Sports Scholar who recently graduated in Biochemistry from the University of Bath.

Lawrence Clarke, pictured, who is studying a Masters in Management at the University, is Britain’s sole representative in the men’s 110m hurdles. He has made one previous World Championships appearance, at Daegu, South Korea in 2011.

Sports Performance graduate Danny Talbot, coached by Dan Cossins at the Sports Training Village, will make his World Championships debut in Beijing after being selected for both the 200m and men’s 4x100m relay.

Jack Green, who used to train with Arnold at the University of Bath, has been named in the 4x400m relay squad.

The World Championships will take place from August 22-30 in the Bird’s Nest Stadium, the iconic venue for the Beijing 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
