Wonderful Roehampton wins boost tennis duo’s chances of playing at Junior Wimbledon

27 June 2016

Talented teenage Team Bath MCTA Tennis players Megan Davies and Eden Richardson have boosted their chances of a Junior Wimbledon wildcard entry by beating players in the world’s top 50 over the weekend.

Both are in action at the Nike Junior International in Roehampton, where Davies recorded an excellent 6-2 7-5 victory over Paraguay’s Lara Escauriza in the first round. She faces Iga Swiatek of Poland in the last 32.

Richardson, fresh from her outstanding tournament win at the Nike Junior International in Nottingham, continued her fine form with a 7-5 6-2 defeat of America’s Morgan Coppoc to set up a meeting with Ludmilla Samsonova of Italy.

Davies and Richardson will be hoping those results will be enough to secure a direct route to Junior Wimbledon and avoid the need to attend the qualifying tournament, which starts on Thursday.

James Davis, who reached the boys’ main draw in Roehampton, will be taking part in the Junior Wimbledon qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Team Bath MCTA’s senior players have been handed tough draws in the senior Wimbledon tournament as they prepare to start their doubles competitions.

Anna Smith and partner Jocelyn Rae have been drawn against Russia’s Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina, the number four seeds, in round one of the ladies’ doubles.

Marcus Daniell will start his men’s doubles campaign with Brian Baker against the number 13 seeds from Colombia, Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah.
