Marcus Daniell set to start US Open doubles campaign at Flushing Meadows

31 August 2016

Team Bath MCTA Tennis player Marcus Daniell begins his men’s doubles campaign at the US Open in New York on Wednesday.

Daniell, fresh from representing his native New Zealand at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, will once again team up with Brian Baker of the United States at Flushing Meadows.

They face fellow unseeded pair Hans Podlipnik-Castillo of Chile and Malek Jaziri of Tunisia in the first round, with the match scheduled to take place on Court 4 in the evening session.

Should Daniell and Baker progress through the first two rounds, they could meet Great Britain’s Jamie Murray and partner Bruno Soars – the reigning Australian Open champions.

It is a first US Open appearance for Daniell, joined at Flushing Meadows by coach Dave Sammel, and means he has appeared at all four Grand Slam tournaments in 2016.
