Rousing return to international action for Pentathlon GB’s Joe Choong in Germany

10 April 2017

University of Bath student Joe Choong recorded a top-five finish at the German Open Championships in Berlin during his first international modern pentathlon appearance of 2017.

The Rio 2016 Olympian and ambassador for Team Bath partners MJ Church sat in the top six throughout the day and was the highest-placed overseas athlete, with the top four spots going to German competitors.

Choong took a break after the Olympics to focus on his Mathematics studies but is now back in full training with the Pentathlon GB squad at the University of Bath-based High Performance Centre.

George Budden finished 30th on his senior international debut, while Sport Performance student Bradley Sutton – supported by a Santander Sports Scholarship – was 34th in Berlin.

The women’s competition saw Georgia Pipes and Charlie Follett, who study Sociology and Psychology respectively, continued their fine starts to 2017 by placing 18th and 19th in a strong field.
