Rising star Amelia Bissett helps GB into finals of Tennis Europe Summer Cup

06 July 2017

Team Bath MCTA Tennis player Amelia Bissett is looking forward to her second Tennis Europe final of the year after helping Great Britain’s U14 Girls through the qualifying stages of the Summer Cup.

The 14-year-old from Devizes, a pupil at Ralph Allen School in Bath, won three of her five matches in Saint Valery En Caux, France, last weekend as GB qualified as runners-up to the host nation.

They will now fly out to San Remo in Italy for the finals, taking place from Friday to Sunday (July 7-9).

Bissett, coached by Eve Hughes and Craig Procter at the University of Bath Sports Training Village, was part of the GB U14 team that finished fourth overall at the Tennis Europe Winter Cup earlier this year.

She was in fine form as GB beat Luxembourg 3-0 in their opening match in France last weekend, winning her singles match 6-0 6-3 before teaming up with Lily Hutchings to win the doubles 6-1 6-1.

The following day saw Bissett win her singles match 6-3 7-5 as GB beat Hungary 3-0 but France proved too strong in Sunday’s showdown to decide who would top the qualifying group. However, GB had already done enough to book their place in the finals.
