No quarter-final but Marcus Daniell matches best-ever Wimbledon performance

11 July 2017

Marcus Daniell’s Wimbledon 2017 campaign came to a battling end as the Team Bath MCTA Tennis player and partner Marcelo Demoliner were edged out in the third round of the men’s doubles.

A tightly-fought match against the British Skupski brothers, Ken and Neal, went into a second day after poor light ended Monday’s play with Daniell and Demoliner trailing 6-7 7-5 6-7.

They returned to Court 3 on Tuesday afternoon but only managed five points before rain forced them off court again, with Daniell and Demoliner heading off 30-40 down.

They were able to recover that situation when play resumed but were broken in the seventh game of the set and could not quite get back on level terms as they went down 6-4.

Despite missing out on a quarter-final place, reaching the third round matched the best-ever Grand Slam performance for Rio 2016 Olympian Daniell – coached by Dave Sammel and Ian MacDonald – and Demoliner.
