Asian Games gold and World Rugby U20 Trophy experience for University of Bath rugby students

09 September 2018

Three University of Bath student rugby players have been warming up for the new BUCS Super Rugby season by representing their countries on the international stage.

Economics & Politics student Hugo Stiles, a Santander sporting scholar who plays fly-half or full-back, helped Hong Kong win rugby sevens Asian Games gold for the first time ever at Jakarta-Palembang 2018 in Indonesia.

Centre Alex Nisbet, who studies Economics, also represented Hong Kong at the 2018 World Rugby U20 Trophy in Romania, helping them place sixth overall.

Prop David da Costa, a Management student, was part of the Portugal U20 team that finished third overall thanks to a 67-37 victory over Namibia. Their only defeat in the competition came in the group stages against eventual champions Fiji.

Da Costa, Nisbet and Stiles have all represented Team Bath in the national BUCS Super Rugby competition during the past couple of years and are now preparing for the 2018-19 season.

That gets under way during Freshers Week – on Wednesday, September 26 (6.30pm) – when Team Bath entertain Northumbria on the athletics infield at the University of Bath Sports Training Village. Entry to spectators is free.
