Mayor of Bath celebrates achievements of World Champions Jamie Cooke and Vicky Holland at civic reception

24 October 2018

After being crowned as World Champions within 48 hours of each other last month, University of Bath-based Jamie Cooke and Vicky Holland have had their achievements officially celebrated at a civic reception.

Cooke, who competes in modern pentathlon, and triathlete Holland were guests of the Mayor of Bath, Councillor Patrick Anketell-Jones, at The Guildhall on Tuesday (October 23). Both were joined by their coaches, training colleagues and Team Bath representatives.

The reception recognised their outstanding achievements in September, which started when Pentathlon GB’s Cooke produced a magnificent sprint finish to grab the men’s title on the line at the Modern Pentathlon World Championships in Mexico.

Two days later on Australia’s Gold Coast, Olympic bronze-medallist Holland – coached by Rhys Davey at the Sports Training Village – finished runner-up in the ITU Grand Final to take top spot overall in the ITU World Series.

It capped a superb season for Holland, who missed all but one race during 2017 through injury but returned strongly to three gold and two silver medals on the world stage plus team relay silver at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
