Chemistry graduate Alex Paske claims first Continental Open judo podium place in Cameroon

25 November 2018

Former Team Bath judoka Alex Paske won his first medal on the international stage as he took a superb silver at the Yaounde African Open in Cameroon.

The University of Bath Chemistry graduate, who trained with Team Bath for 11 years before leaving this summer due to family commitments, overcame two home judoka – Ebenezer Njoh Ndongue Miano and Joseph Hell Bapou – on his way to the -73kg final.

A waza-ari was all that separated Paske and Algeria’s Fethi Nourine during a closely-fought gold-medal contest.

It was the second Continental Open medal for University alumni in the space of a week following bronze for Sports Performance graduate Gregg Varey – Paske’s successor as Team Bath High-Performance Judo Squad Captain – at the Dakar African Open in Senegal.
