Gold, silver and bronze as University of Bath Triathlon Club student-athletes excel at BUCS Championships

Team Bath Dual Career athletes Leon Chevalier and Alex Chantler-Mayne led a University of Bath Triathlon Club one-two when students competed in the BUCS Standard Distance Championships in Southport on Sunday.

Chemical Engineering student Chevalier completed the 500m marine lake swim, 40km coastal-road cycle and 10km run around the circumference of the Waterside Lodge lake in a winning time of 1:51:23 to take the men’s title.

Chantler-Mayne, who studies Mechanical Engineering, held off a strong challenge from Stirling’s Cameron Main to finish runner-up in 1:51:48. Daniel Galpin was 35th overall in 2:04:38 as Bath won bronze in the team event.

There were more medals in the women’s race as Mathematics Masters student Ashia Fenwick finished a fine third in 2:10:02. Florence Betts (2:17:40) and Lucy Scott (2:18:21) were 11th and 13th respectively as Bath won silver in the team competition.
